Hashmed Jawad Minister of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Iraq
Gentlemen,
The Republic of Iraq is very interest in becoming a member of the Non-Aligned Movement. We believe that this organization is vital to the continued ability of our nations to ensure security and peace. As such my Prime Minister has authorized me to attend any conference regarding the NAM, and to negotiate our position on behalf of the Republic of Iraq.
Jawaharlal Nehru
Union Minister of External Affairs
Republic of India
The Government of India warmly welcomes this declaration of intent. We are greatly encouraged by Iraq’s recognition of the Movement’s role in safeguarding peace, ensuring sovereignty, and promoting equitable cooperation among nations free from the polarizing pressures of military alliances.
The Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, and his government have long held the conviction that non-alignment represents not a passive stance, but an active commitment to the principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and global justice. The prospective participation of the Republic of Iraq — a nation of profound historical legacy and contemporary significance — would indeed strengthen these ideals and bring valuable perspective to our collective efforts.
We are particularly gratified by the decision of your Honourable Prime Minister to authorize representation in forthcoming conferences. Please be assured that the Government of India stands ready to extend all appropriate cooperation and support to your delegation in this regard. We trust that discussions will lead to a deeper mutual understanding and to Iraq’s meaningful participation in future deliberations and initiatives under the NAM framework.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and India’s enduring friendship and goodwill.
